In the evening the lake goes black and the villas light up along the edges. Dinner at that hour needs no further decoration.
The Towns Around the Lake
Como sits at the southern end and gives the lake its name and its transport. Cernobbio is close by, grand and hotel-led, while Bellagio holds the point where the lake divides.
Tremezzo faces Bellagio across the water with its villas and gardens, Menaggio sits further up the western shore, and Varenna on the eastern side stays smaller and steeper. Distances look short and take longer than you expect.
