Freiburg, Baiersbronn and the Northern and Southern Halves
Freiburg sits at the western edge of the southern Black Forest and is the region's obvious gateway — a university city with an old centre, good rail connections, and the forest starting immediately behind it.
The northern half, around Baiersbronn and the valleys inland from Baden-Baden, is the more established hospitality region: countryside hotels, wooded slopes and a long tradition of people coming here to do nothing.
The southern half, towards the higher ground and the Swiss border, is wilder and emptier. Triberg and the central valleys sit between the two. These are separate towns and areas across a large region, not districts — distances here are real, and worth planning around.
Rural Logistics and What I Do Not Provide
Getting to a specific valley is not the same as getting to a city. Roads are narrow, journeys take longer than the map suggests, and winter changes all of it. Tell me the actual property and the nearest town and I will say what is practical.
Countryside hotels and rented houses differ enormously in how visitors are handled, and the remote ones are often the strictest. Their rules decide the shape of any arrangement.
I hold no resort affiliation, no spa admission or wellness privileges, no hotel relationships and no access to any private house or estate in the region. Anything of that kind is booked by you.
