One State, Several Kinds of Quiet
Los Angeles hides people inside its own performance — so much is already staged there that one more private evening disappears without effort. San Francisco does the opposite: it keeps its head down, fog rolling over hills built for people who never wanted to be looked at in the first place.
Napa Valley trades density for distance. Nobody there is rushing, which means nobody there is watching either. San Diego and Santa Barbara run on a similar coastal patience, though San Diego's is warmer and more social, Santa Barbara's more withheld.
Palm Springs strips things down further still — heat, distance, a desert that has never needed to explain a closed gate. Carmel and Monterey keep to themselves entirely, a peninsula wrapped in mist that has been discreet since long before anyone called it that.
None of it requires you to choose a persona. It only asks that you choose the setting that already matches your week.

A city built entirely on being watched. The rarest thing it can offer anyone is a room where nobody's performing — including me.
San Francisco
The fog here doesn't need an excuse to hide something. It simply does, every evening, without comment. I've learned to work the same way.
Napa Valley
Nothing in this valley is rushed. The vines take years to say anything worth tasting, and the best private hours here move at exactly that pace.
San Diego
The evenings here don't need to be loud to work. The sea does most of the talking, and I've learned to leave long pauses where it can.
Palm Springs
The desert doesn't hide anything by accident — it simply has more space than it needs, and privacy is what fills the gap. That's most of what I offer here too.
Santa Barbara
Understated is the whole point here. This is a town that could show off and simply chooses not to — and I've always preferred working somewhere that already knows the value of restraint.
Carmel & Monterey
The mist here arrives most mornings and rarely announces why. It's the most honest thing about this peninsula — a place that keeps its own thoughts, and lets you keep yours too.

- Earlier than you think. Awards season and film events fill Los Angeles, harvest fills Napa, and summer fills the coast. Dates given a few weeks ahead are simply easier to arrange.
- How is privacy handled across the state?
- Quietly, and without theatre, wherever you write from. I ask for no unnecessary personal information, keep correspondence to your chosen method, and make no claims about anonymity I couldn't keep.
